Description
This was awesome to do. So before embarking on our epic cross-USA trip together, gentleman extraordinaire Tom Jilesen asked me if I wanted to collaborate with him on a mural he was going to paint into the new space the studio he works at just moved into.
Tom's boss, Roel, gave us a lot of freedom with this, which just made the whole thing that much more fun to work on. Basically he wanted an assembly of any and all video game, comic, and movie characters the he liked or that we liked, or both.
So first Tom and I sketched up a digital file, in which we would just draw characters and assemble them, sending the file back and forth, working simultaenously and going over each others lines, just pushing it back and forth until we were happy with it (if you're familiar with our individual art styles, at least Tom's, you might be able to pick out who drew which character though). Then we projected the digital image onto the wall in sections and traced the lines onto the wall with acrylic paint. The projector couldn't cover the entire wall, it measures roughly 2,7 x 4,6 meters. It took a while to complete and required me to make two trips over to Holland, where the studio is located.
Check out the Weber games studio at [link] . Also, there are some work in progress shots on Roel's blog, [link] .
So yeah, oviously we needed fake moustaches to compliment the mural when posing next to it (and that uninentionally turned us into some whack as hell version of the Mario Brothers...).
Hope you enjoy!
