The Lords of Badfunk by FabianMonk The Lords of Badfunk by FabianMonk
Here's another one from the book. This time around the drawing is all me (damn I really need to do more of those)!

Um, not consciously, but it does seem like a rather clear fit doesn't it...
probably subliminal influence of well established theme.

Yeah i get that most of the times, artists mostly interpret what they see and the best way to get away with originality is to see a lot and have as many influences as possible

incredible
what brushes did you use for the colours?:jedi:

It's a mixture of photographic textures as well a custom brush for the skin. I don't use that one anymore though, I might have posted where I got it somewhere here in the comments though.

CS 3 I think?
Haha I'm not really sure. But this could have just as easily been done in CS 1.

I really like the grim, earthy colors and subtle lighting. Rather than increasing the exaggeration already apparent in the linework, it complements it with a feeling of realism. They also create an appropriately grim, brooding atmosphere for these shady characters. Excellent work!

We (of Satellite Soda, [link] ) sold that at the San Diego Comic con this summer. No copies left as far as I know.

How'd you get the leathery, grainy texture in his skin? Is it a layer of noise under the modelling??
Reply
:iconfabianmonk:
FabianMonk Featured By Owner Oct 9, 2006  Student Digital Artist
What modelling?
I painted the skin-like texture by hand, partially with brushes set to "dissolve", and partially with just grainy/textured custom brushes.

Sorry mate, I meant modelling in the painting sense, as in creating the volume of the arm, doing the light and shade. Grainy brushes and dissolve brushes, I'll have to spend some time fiddling with that, it's a wicked result you've got.
